Senators “back out” from approving Media Law

Manlio Fabio Beltrones, from PRI stated that they will not go forward if the decisions of April 8th were modified

This Friday the Senate will finish their first ordinary session period, and the “Media Law” will be ending with it. According to Carlos Sotelo from the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) they lack the proper conditions to set it in motion.

Thus, the senator said that the legislators from the National Action Party (PAN) “backed out” and therefore, there is not enough back up to avail neither an integral nor a partial reform, according to the website of the journal El Universal.

Regarding the possibility of approving the bill partially, as agreed between PRD and PRI approved on April 8 (which avails the administrative ratification of concessions), Mr. Sotelo mentioned that PAN wanted to change the article 42 (regarding the ratifications) of the bill.

Mr. Sotelo said that this will enable the approval of a partial reform; however, he revealed that yesterday Manlio Fabio Beltrones, from the Institutional Revolution Party (PRI) stated that they will not go forward if the decisions of April 8th were modified.

He finally criticized the federal government on his negative stand upon the Media Reform (El Semanario Agencia, ESA)
