Alert situation extended after explosion in U.S. consulate

The alert first originated on March 14 has now been extended to May 12

After an explosive artifact was launched in the American Consulate in Nuevo Laredo this weekend, the authorities of the United States reinstated the alert so that the staff working in their consulate offices requests their families to abandon Mexican territory.

The alert was first originated on March 14, for the staff of the consulates of Tijuana, Matamoros, Monterrey, Nuevo Laredo, Nogales and Juarez and originally expired today. Due to the new situation the state of alert has been extended until May 12.

In a press release, the American Department of State said “Violence in the country (Mexico) has increased. It is necessary that American citizens understand the risks at Mexico and avoid dangerous situations as possible and that they are aware of who should they contact in case of becoming a victim”.

It added that the alert does not affect American public servers assigned to states of Mexico other than the border states above mentioned.

Likewise, the American embassy in Mexico invited its citizens to postpone any unnecessary trip to the stated of Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua.

The department of State recognized that millions of Americans travel to Mexico to studio, for business or tourism without any problems at all and that abut a million Americans live in Mexico. (El Semanario Agencia, ESA)
