Telcel & Movistar ask to extend registration period at Renaut

The companies warned that cancelling the non-registered lines at Renaut would be strong for economy and for operators

The directors of both companies mentioned that this law specifies that non-registered lines will be cancelled without any responsibility for the operator; however, they did not specified if they will continue charging the service for post-paid numbers.

Therefore, they explained there’s no specific regulation for Renaut, despite the Federal Telecommunications Commission (Cofetel) was the one that will issue it.

Miguel Calderon, director of Strategy at Telefonica Mexico, mentioned that the impact of cancelling the non-registered lines would be severe for economy and operators.

As far as he is concerned, Luis Wertman, president of Citizen Board for Public Safety, highlighted the importance of looking after the veracity and effectiveness of this system in order to guarantee the safety of society concerning data management.
