Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that he would try to run for president as a leftist candidate for either the PT or the Convergencia for the national elections in 2012.
Interviewed on the Hoy por Hoy de W Radio program the former presidential candidate for the Bien de Todos Party in 2006 admitted that the political movement he heads needs the backing of a political party in order to express itself electorally which is why he would accept a nomination in the event one of those political forces invites him to do so next year.
"Yes, we're running for 2012," he acknowledged. However, he abstained from specifying if he would seek the backing of the PRD, a party he is a member of and of which he was national chairman in 1996 and 1998.
