It’s Official: Steve Carell is Leaving ‘The Office’

There have been rumors circulating for months now about Steve Carell saying sayonara to The Office. Now those rumors have been confirmed.

Carell, who portrays Dunder Mifflin’s favorite manager, Michael Scott, reportedly said “I think [season] seven will be my last year. I want to fulfill my contract. When I first singed on, I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.”

So, Steve…let’s be honest. Is there anything at all that can keep you from possibly ruining my favorite show by leaving? His response: “No. I just wanted to spend more time with my family.”

But I can’t say that I’m all that happy about it.

But don’t be too upset, Office lovers. We still get a whole season with our favorite manager, as Steve will be leaving the show in May of 2011.

And now I’m thinking that Office character Gabe’s (portrayed by Zach Woods) move up to series regular could mean that he will “replace” Michael Scott…which I think would be a huge mistake. What do you guys think?

But what I’m most curious about is exactly how Michael Scott will leave Dunder-Mifflin. Will he go hook back up with Holly (Amy Ryan)? Will he move to a foreign country? My brain is going crazy with ideas.
